Computer Requirements:
Use this program with Windows 3.1 or any more recent Windows system. Viewing the
Security Guide requires that a browser
such as Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, or Netscape Communicator be
installed on your system. Your browser does not need to be connected to the
Internet.
Basic Download and Installation Procedure
To download this program, click on the link above and then select the drive and directory to which you wish to save the file.
Before opening the program for the first time, close all Windows programs and delete any previous version of the Security Guide program.
When this has been done, go to the location where you saved the download and double-click the file. A dialog box will appear with several buttons. Single-click the Unzip button. This will decompress the files and automatically start the installation program. Follow the directions in the installation program. If the installation program does not start or you encounter any other problems, contact your system administrator. It may be that security procedures in your system allow new programs to be installed only by your system administrator.
The installation program adds a Security Guide icon to your computer desktop and/or a new menu item to your program menu. Open the Security Guide by double clicking on the icon or selecting the menu item. If this does not automatically start your browser and open the Security Guide, see further instructions below.
Alternate Procedure:
On some computers, the browser will not open automatically when you click on the
Security Guide icon.
If this is the case, you have two options:
1. Ask your system administrator to modify the icon or the Start menu item so that it will start your browser automatically.
2. Open your browser first, then open the file "index.htm" in the directory where Security Guide is installed. To do this follow these instructions.
For Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, or Communicator:
1. Click the "File" menu.
2. Select "Open" or "Open Page" from the pulldown menu.
3. Type "c:\SecurityGuide\index.htm" (if you installed Security
Guide in the C directory).
4. Click the "Open" or "OK" button.
Troubleshooting:
If the program does not install, make certain you have exited all Windows programs and
deleted any previous version of the Security Guide before installing.
When you double click on the Security Guide icon, your browser may open as desired but with a blank screen. To correct this, open the program from within the browser per the Alternate Procedure above. Thereafter, you may find that the program will open properly simply be double-clicking on the icon.
